I don’t know about you but I always find it quite difficult to start new years resolutions properly in January? There’s always too many Christmas chocolates and treats left to start healthy eating or being healthier in general, I’m always too tired with re-adjusting to work life to join the gym etc etc… So this year I’ve decided instead of some more new years resolutions, I’m just going to try and do a few things but not be too hard on myself about it. I’m finding it quite difficult still to adjust to the new chapter of my life in Sheffield away from home still so I’m just going to try my best! Hopefully if you’re looking for a few things to try out then this might give you a little inspiration too.
So as part of my Christmas present my mum got me a beginners knitting book, some needles and a ball of wool to practice with. My mum is honestly incredible at knitting and my sister-in-law is getting pretty good too and they’ve been trying to get me involved for ages now. I always think I never have the time to learn or practice nor do I know what I would knit when I have learnt but I knew this would happen sometime soon! So I have already learnt a couple of different stitches, how to cast on and how to take my knitting back down if I get stuck but I’ve only been doing odd rows like every other week. So I really want to start putting time aside and giving it a proper go this month, after all I have a lot of catching up to do!
Getting A Good Nights Sleep
Now I’m not saying I’m going to turn into a total granny and try and get to sleep super early every night but more realistically maybe once or twice a week get a slightly earlier night? I’m always so tired especially now I have to get up earlier with my new job and work for longer too so I think it would really do me some good just once or twice a week to get an extra hour in rather than ending up wasting half my weekend trying to catch up on sleep.
One of my new years resolutions last year was to get back in to reading and well let me tell you, it didn’t go very well at all. I think I finished one book throughout the whole year and half read two. I just couldn’t get into them properly and always ending up doing something else instead of reading. So hopefully I can do better this year, which I’m going to try and start in February too. I have a good few books from last year lined up and ready to be read so there are no excuses and if I can tie it into getting an earlier night too that would be great. I think reading for a little while before bed would do me the world of good to get out the habit of scrolling through Instagram and Twitter before I go to sleep.
Making Healthier Choices
Again, I’m not going super hard core with this, I’m still going to enjoy life. I just want to try and get more active again, re-joining the gym and eating healthier. I do want to lose a couple of lbs and tone up a little before my summer holiday this year but not loads, just to feel comfortable again. But I think a healthier lifestyle and balance is more important than ‘go hard or go home’ because otherwise it always means you’ll reach a point and just totally lose interest and go back to your old habits!
So those are just a few of things I’d like to have a go at getting into in February, who knows maybe I will have more throughout the year! Do you have anything you’d like to start, any goals or new hobbies?
