10 Summer Holiday Essentials

As I’m going on holiday on Friday I thought what better post to write than one all about summer holiday essentials! From beauty to fashion to little extras that you may not have thought about and more…

1. The floppy hat

Now this may not be to everyone’s taste but for me it’s definitely an essential. If I don’t wear a hat on holiday I will get a burnt head where my parting goes and with my hair being quite thin, its not just a case of ditching the parting while I’m in the sun as you will still be able to see my scalp in places. For me it has to be a floppy hat seen as I don’t really suit any other hat and at least these look super cute. I went for one that’s also perfect for a summer flatlay from good ol’ Primark.

2. Cute beach bag

Of course you need a cute bag to keep all of your essentials in! I like to have one big enough for my towel as well as everything else. This is another little gem I picked up from Primark too.

3. Entertainment

You always need some entertainment when you’re on holiday, whether it’s for lounging around by the pool with or for when you’re in your hotel room/apartment and of course not forgetting when you’re on the plane too! Music is always a great option but for when I’m by the pool, most of the time I prefer to have a good book so my electronic devices don’t over heat but I also like to hear what’s going on around me. I always make sure I pack a few good books. I’m really looking forward to getting back into reading whilst I’m on holiday!

4. Hair protection

The sun, sea and chlorine can really damage your hair whilst you’re on holiday so It’s important to do what you can to protect it. This can be anything from a hair oil, coconut oil, hair masks or a leave in conditioner. This year I’ve gone for something new and picked up the Umberto Giannini Pool Proof Hair Protection Cream. This claims to minimise the effects of drying from chlorine and salt water, repels water and also helps to deep condition and de-tangle the hair. I can’t wait to try this out and report back to you with my results after holiday.

5. Anti-chafe balm

Now this may not be on your holiday essentials list, but maybe it should be! This never used to be a problem for me but on my last summer holiday a couple of years ago I really suffered with chafing and it’s one of the most uncomfortable things to have whilst you’re on holiday, especially as once you get it, there’s not much you can do to stop your legs from touching and rubbing against each other. I think for me it now happens because aside from being on a hot holiday, I’m usually wearing jeans or trousers 80% of the time and even when I’m wearing skirts or dresses, I’m usually wearing tights too, so my legs just aren’t used to rubbing against each other. So this time I picked up something that will hopefully help which is the BodyGlide For Her an anti-chafe & moisturising balm. I’ll be reporting back on this one too!

6. Flip flops/sliders

These are definitely essential for around the pool if nowhere else. Easy to slip on and off when you need to get up for a drink, food or the toilet. For me I struggle to wear regular flip flops as the bit that goes between your toes rubs, so this year I have become obsessed with cross strap sliders and went from having 0 to 3 pairs real quickly. They’re super cute and can also be worn with all of my outfits too so that’s pretty good if you ask me.

7. Sun protection

A pretty obvious one but I thought I would include it anyway is of course sun cream and after sun. There is nothing worse than being burnt by the sun and it can cause so many problems, you have to stay protected! I like to start off with SPF 30 sun cream for the first few days of holiday and then try a lower SPF to help with my tan. It’s also important to have after care too whether you’ve been burnt by the sun or not, your skin needs to be moisturised and soothed after being in the sun for a long time. If you’ve been burnt then a lotion with aloe vera in is perfect to help sooth and moisturise the skin and if you haven’t then anything from body butter to regular body lotion will do the trick.

8. Decent sunglasses

Another obvious one but one I wanted to include. You need to make sure you get some decent sunglasses that will actually protect your eyes, are a nice fit and are comfortable. The worrying fact is that some sunglasses on the market don’t actually protect your eyes from UV rays so be careful. They also need to fit your face properly to ensure they’re protecting your eyes and be comfortable enough as you’ll no doubt be wearing them a hell of a lot.

9. A cover up

Something to throw on over your bikini when you fancy going to get a drink, some food, going to the toilet or even going to the beach in and you want to cover yourself up a little. I like to have something I can throw on which varies from an actual cover up or a little dress or a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. I also think it’s useful to have something to cover you up whilst you’re lounging on the sun bed. Sometimes I find if I’ve burnt a certain body part like my arm or something but the rest of me is fine, I can just cover that up without covering up the rest of me.

10. Citrus shower gel

This is a must for when you go on holiday, not only does it smell super summery and fresh, it also repels mozzies so will help prevent bites!

So there we have it, 10 of my summer holiday essentials. I’m getting super excited now and can’t wait to be lounging in the sun, dipping in the pool, eating all the lovely food, wearing all my cute summer outfits and making some great memories! What are your holiday essentials?

This is just like my essentials list! I have very thick hair but also burn where my parting is, it drives me crazy. LUSH silky underwear powder is also good for chaffing, plus it smells good and moisturises.

These all sound like great essentials, I love the hat and would definitely wear it. I tend to wear either a base ball cap on hols or a straw hat depending on outfits. Those stripy shorts are super cute too. Hope you have an amazing time lovely!

I hope you’re having/have had a lovely holiday! I swear by a hat when I’m on holiday – I wear factor 50 on my face cos my nose always burns so bad, but I still need to wear a hat too to protect it. A love a cover up too, there’s nothing worse than wandering around in just your bikini haha xo
